Overview
Xploration18.com came to me as a self-taught WooCommerce build tied to a supplier-controlled hosting platform. As the product range expanded, the site struggled with poor performance, slow load times, and an overgrown database. When I took over the project, I spent several months applying temporary “plasters” to stabilise the site while keeping it running for customers, but the underlying issues continued to limit scalability and speed.
Challenges
• Inherited build with structural limitations
• Hosting tied to the original supplier
• Severe performance issues and bloated database
• Removal of one supplier (app-based) and migration to a new supplier (CSV-based)
• Large increase in product quantity with no categorisation system
• Multiple temporary fixes applied but long-term stability required a complete rebuild

• Full redesign and rebuild from the ground up
• Migration to my high-performance Krystal hosting environment
• Cleanup of legacy data and database optimisation
• Development of a large-scale product categorisation system, evolving into a custom plugin
• Proper categorisation for 5,000+ products
• Keyword refinement process added for ongoing UX improvements

The Result
The relaunched website is now significantly faster, smoother, and far easier for customers to navigate. Product discovery has improved dramatically thanks to the new categorisation engine, and the system now supports continued growth with minimal manual intervention.
Additional Business Update
Tin’z Treasure’z — the physical store behind Xploration18 — has completed a full refurbishment, increased its in-store holdings, and will celebrate a Grand Reopening on 5th December 2025. The vast majority of products are now available online, with a curated selection available in store.

This project showcases how a complete rebuild, proper system architecture, and custom automation can transform an underperforming e-commerce site into a high-performance online store capable of scaling to thousands of products. Xploration18.com is now positioned for strong, sustainable growth throughout 2026 and beyond.
